Building Your Janitorial Business Through Bundling and Add-Ons

If you are looking for ways to increase profits from your janitorial business, you don't have to come up with a crazy marketing plan or start working 15-hour days. By bundling services and offering add-ons to your clients, you are increasing the value you are providing and increasing your profit at the same time.

Most people would rather spend more money if it means doing less work–that could mean hiring maintenance cleaners or hiring a different company for additional services. If you offer people the opportunity to take one more thing off their to-do list, they will probably take it.

Bundling Services

Position yourself as “the complete package” when it comes to cleaning services. Windows, floors, carpets, you name it. You could even throw in refrigerators in the kitchens or break rooms. (Who doesn't need their refrigerator cleaned, after all?) If clients see you as a one-stop shop preventing them from needing to find cleaners for other things, they will pay the higher price for the convenience of keeping only one cleaner on the payroll.

You may want to offer a discount on these services to entice clients, but for some, the convenience of paying one cleaner to do everything may be enough. You can also customize your bundles depending on what types of buildings you clean–medical buildings, banks, schools, etc.

In addition to bundling together services in the same cleaning session, you can bundle together types of services over time. Offer maintenance cleaning every couple of months for carpets that need spot cleaning, hardwood floors that need waxing regularly, or particularly dirty areas of the building that need a little extra love.

Explain to the client that this maintenance cleaning will decrease the amount of time you have to spend on your deep cleans, which will be more convenient for them. And if anything gets really dirty for some reason, they won't have to wait to have it addressed until the less-frequent deep clean either.

You can offer seasonal packages as well. “Spring cleaning” is an easy one, but maybe you have a “Pre-Holiday Party” cleaning package or a “Summer deep cleaning” package for when people are on vacation and you have more time/room to do a deep clean. Get creative and offer something other cleaning services don't offer to help you stand out.

Add-Ons

As mentioned above, you can throw in cleaning appliances like microwaves or refrigerators as an add-on to routine cleaning services. You can make a tidy sum from these types of cleaning, and clients will probably jump at the chance to not have to do it themselves AND to have it included in routine cleaning.

Think outside the box when it comes to your add-ons. People don't just need rooms and items cleaned–they need amenities like soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and trash can liners. You can offer to provide these items for a fee and add a small surcharge for your labor, usually up to 15%. Again, your clients will thank you for taking one more thing off their to-do list by handling the logistics of ordering, purchasing, and delivering the products as part of your services.

Conclusion

Bundling and providing add-ons are easy ways to increase your income without spending time or marketing money on obtaining new clients. Not only are you giving your clients more services, but you're increasing your perceived value as a comprehensive supply and cleaning service, making them more satisfied and more likely to recommend you to others.
