Tools to Use for Cleaning Grout
Maintaining the appearance level of grout in tile floors is a difficult task for building service contractors. Grout is very porous so over time, water, soil, dirty mop water, urine, and other contaminants will eventually discolor the grout. You may even have to deal with odor and mildew problems.
Most grout is sealed when the floor is first laid, but over time the sealer will wear off and if it's not re-sealed, the above problems will eventually become apparent.
So how do you clean the grout? If it's a small area you can get down on your hands and knees and clean it with a grout cleaner, brush, and elbow grease.
If it's a large area, you'll want the help of a slow speed floor machine (175 rpm) and brush drive. An even better solution is to use one of the new cylindrical brush machines, with multiple brush heads that can easily reach the grout surface in order to loosen the soil.
Use the proper cleaner for the job. This means identifying the type of soil first, and using a cleaner that will most effectively remove this type of soil. Visit your local janitorial supplies distributor to discuss your needs.
