Small Touches That Will Make Your Cleaning Company Stand Out
There is nothing better than that feeling we get when out of nowhere somebody does something special for us that was completely unexpected. It doesn't have to be extravagant or expensive, just a small token that says “yes, you are important.” You know, the extra little things, like the cute animals that the hotel maids leave for you on the bed, the mint candy, not moving your iPad, and so on. Heck, even the complimentary water is a nice touch. Well, the same can be said about your cleaning company.
The small details that your cleaning technicians perform while completing their normal cleaning duties will surely be appreciated by your customers. Simple things, like organizing and pushing in the chairs after cleaning the break room. Customers love these "small touches."
“Small touches” is about the details
Your cleaning company and the way you clean can have a big impact on your customers by simply paying attention to small cleaning details that other cleaning companies do not.
Here are few simple guidelines to make your customers feel like they are getting special treatment:
- Make it a cleaning routine for your cleaning technicians to put everything back exactly where it was originally. People think of their desks, for example, as an extension of themselves. Your cleaners should leave a desk as they found it, minus the dust of course. The general rule is to clean a desktop if it is clear. Leave desks that are covered with papers and projects alone. When cleaning a desk, pick up objects with one hand (phones, pictures, etc.) and dust with the other hand.
- Never set tools, cleaners, trash receptacles or chairs on furniture, desks, or counters while cleaning. Items can scratch surfaces and trash receptacles can leak, causing damage to papers and the finish of furniture.
- When something is moved -- clean it! If the cleaning technician moves a piece of office furniture or fixture, have them take the opportunity to clean all sides and the floor underneath. Whenever they move anything, have them move it slowly. The careless moving around and bumping of office furniture is what causes unnecessary damage.
- Always ask! If the cleaning technician comes across something that needs to be replaced or repaired, have them contact their supervisor or leave a note in the cleaning log. Never have them take it upon themselves to fix something that needs a repair, no matter how minor.
- If the cleaner breaks or damages something, leave a note. No matter how careful we are; occasionally things break. Cleaners need to report broken or damaged items to a supervisor and leave a note.
Its small cleaning procedures like these that can eliminate problems before they begin. No problem is a good problem to have and your customers will appreciate your cleaning company for it.
Going that extra mile for your cleaning customers
There are some things your company can do that can really separate you from the competition as well as keep the competition at bay. Maybe it's a last minute cleaning request that you take care of even though you are already swamped.
Perhaps they need chairs set up in the banquet hall for tonight's meeting that slipped their minds. Or the desperate call to come over immediately to unplug the toilet in the men's room and clean up the overflow water.
Heck, if you really want to go the extra mile, you could initiate a program to include additional disinfecting of touch points during the flu season without being asked (and without charging extra).
Just make sure your point of contact knows that you were happy to go that extra mile. You can send them a quick email stating that the special request had been completed at no charge. Or you could include these “extras” on your invoices. Just add them as a separate line item but mark them as “no charge.” It's the special touches and that extra mile that you go today that will keep your customers loyal, creates long lasting business relationships, and keep the competition at bay.
