What To Look For When Choosing "Green" Floor Equipment
When you ask people about "green cleaning" they're likely to tell you it's about changing to environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals. But as most of you know, there's more to green cleaning than the chemicals you use.
According to LEED-EBOM, the equipment you use in your business must also, " reduce the exposure of building occupants and maintenance personnel to potentially hazardous chemical, biological and particulate contaminants, which adversely affect air quality, human health, building finishes, building systems and the environment, from powered cleaning equipment.”
In addition, you should choose equipment that reduces the use of water, energy and chemical consumption. And choosing equipment that is more durable can result in huge environmental savings.
When choosing equipment such as floor scrubbers and autoscrubbers, consider the following:
• Choose battery equipment that uses gel batteries
• Choose power equipment that is designed to minimize vibration, noise and user fatigue.
• Choose autoscrubbers that have variable speed feed pumps and chemical metering on-board, or chemical-free autoscrubbers.
• Choose floor machines that are equipped with vacuums, guards and other devices that capture fine particulates.
• Choose floor machines that operate with a sound level of less than 70 decibels.
Although chemicals play a large role in a green cleaning program, the equipment used is also important. Consider the above features before making your next equipment purchase.
