Episode 100: 10 Years of Change in the Cleaning Industry
Episode 100 - Video Transcription - The Janitorial Store's 10 Year Anniversary
This episode marks two milestones at The Janitorial Store. This is our 100th Episode and October 2015 marks our 10 Year Anniversary at The Janitorial Store!
We've seen a lot of change over the past 10 years in the cleaning industry, and today Jean and Steve will talk about the 4 main areas where they've seen the most change.
1. Marketing: Years ago we were able to build our cleaning companies by cold calling and knocking on doors, along with a little networking and getting referrals. Things have changed dramatically when it comes to marketing and Jean will explain why having an online presence is important for every business.
2. Bidding & Estimating: The days of pricing a cleaning account with a piece of paper and a calculator are long gone. Workloading is now done with software and apps, and proposals can be automatically generated. But personalizing your proposals is still key.
3. Employees: Turnover for many cleaning companies has improved over the past few years, with an increased dedication to training and employee engagement. A big problem today is getting enough people applying for jobs.
4. "Green Cleaning" / Cleaning for Health / Sustainability: Cleaning for health has now become the norm in the cleaning industry. And unless you're getting a certification like CIMS GB, it's no longer a differentiator.
