Proper Vacuuming Puts the Final Touch on Office Cleaning
A call came into the office one day from an anxious business owner wanting their carpets cleaned before an event that was going to be held in their office. We drove over to the office to do an inspection and a little Q & A with the potential customer. It didn't take long to notice that the carpet had been neglected for years.
We tried to explain that we could do a carpet extraction but the results would be less than desirable. This due to the fact that the pile and fibers were ruined and spots were left unattended and were permanently stained in areas. They seemed to think that all they needed to do was hire a commercial cleaning company to do a detailed, deep cleaning and VOILA, they would have a brand new carpet again. Were they wrong!
Frequent and Proper Vacuuming is a Requirement
Frequent and proper vacuuming does more than just suck up and remove dust and soil particles. It prolongs the life of carpets by removing gritty particles that can cut and scratch carpet fibers. It also improves the surrounding air quality by removing those nasty allergens that create breathing problems. If carpets are not vacuumed regularly, those dust and soil particles will become trapped in the carpet, permanently staining or discoloring the carpet.
Prolong periods between carpet cleaning by regularly vacuuming with a quality vacuum.
Carpet cleaning, although necessary, can be expensive. Not to mention tough on carpet fibers. A “cheap' vacuum or one that has not been maintained properly, will not get deep into the carpet pile to remove ground down soils close to the carpet backing. A high quality machine that adheres to industry standards is well worth the money spent.
Also, be on the lookout during vacuuming for areas that may have become stained and require immediate attention. The quicker the area can be spot treated, the less permanent damage will take place.
The more foot traffic a carpet receives, the more vacuuming it needs.
Carpeted areas require frequent vacuuming to remove the “dry” dirt. The more traffic, the more you will need to vacuum. Traffic lanes and high use areas should be vacuumed daily for offices that are serviced five times a week. Complete (wall to wall) vacuuming should be done once per week or every time you clean offices that are serviced just once or twice a week. This is a common vacuuming schedule for most office buildings. However, each building is different and vacuuming schedules will need to be adjusted depending on the buildings foot traffic.
Vacuuming should include under chairs, tables, desks, trash cans and other easily movable items.
Make sure to vacuum all areas of the carpet, including along edges and behind doors. For daily cleanings, complete vacuuming should be done on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If a building is only cleaned one, two or three times a week, complete vacuuming should be done every time the building is cleaned.
Detail vacuum the building at least once a month.
Detail vacuum using a back-pack vacuum or an upright vacuum that includes a crevice tool. Detail vacuuming involves vacuuming all edges, under desks, between file cabinets and wall corners, and any other area that cannot be reached with a regular vacuuming.
Be careful not to bump into furniture, walls, corners, baseboards.
This is especially true of wood trim or office equipment while vacuuming. Be watchful of the vacuum cord. It can rub along corners, causing damage to both the customer's property and to the vacuum.
For safety reasons, always check the vacuum cleaner cords before vacuuming.
When plugging in the vacuum, do not unplug computers, fax machines or any other electric equipment in the office. Plug the vacuum in a central location or near the entrance where you will be working.
Avoid injuries and sprains.
Cleaning technicians should stand in a comfortable position, and then lean slightly forward bending at the hips. Move arms forward and backward in a steady motion and shift body weight as necessary. When vacuuming long hallways, walk with the vacuum rather than using excessive arm movements. When using back-pack vacuums, the upper torso should remain erect with little twisting or sudden sharp movements.
Vacuum more efficiently.
Start in one area of the room and work around the room in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. If moving chairs, trash cans or other objects, be sure to put them back in their original place after vacuuming the area.
Put the final touch on office cleaning by proper vacuuming.
Vacuuming helps maintain a carpets plush look and feel as well as prolongs the carpets life span. By frequent and proper vacuuming, the abrasive dust and dirt that accumulates will be removed. And customers can breathe easy by the noticeable improvement to the office buildings air quality.
