Collaborative Cleaning: How to Plan Your Cleaning Technician's Route and Your Tenant Cleaning Duties
Developing efficient cleaning routes are essential to every cleaning business in order to maximize productivity. Every cleaning route needs to be tested and refined until the most efficient route is found for the facility or floor.
Every operations manager and/or supervisor should make sure that cleaning routes are outlined for every location you clean. With the tools available today it is easy to develop floor plans of every location you service. Develop floor plans with cleaning routes clearly outlined and post it in the janitorial closet so they can be used for training employees.
Every employee should know their cleaning routes. It is inefficient to let your employees try to figure it out on their own, and you want to make sure the route is the same no matter who is doing the cleaning that day. You will develop cleaning routes for trash removal, dusting, spot cleaning, restroom cleaning, vacuuming and utility duties.
You will develop cleaning routes for the Zone Cleaning technician, who will remove trash, dust, spot clean, clean the restrooms and vacuum. The tenants will be responsible for placing their trash in the centrally located trash bins.

Collaborative Cleaning Video Transcript:
In the Collaborative Cleaning system, both the cleaning worker and the building's tenants clean. Often this system is found in schools and single-tenant buildings. The building's occupants will place their trashcans in hallways or they will dump their own trashcan in a centrally located trash bin allowing for quick and easy pickup by the cleaning worker on the day of service.
Tenants:
In this example the tenants dump their own trash can into a centrally located trash bin.
They are also responsible for dusting and sanitizing their own work area.
Cleaning Worker:
The cleaning worker will perform a 2 pass cleaning. On the first pass their duties would be trash collection, dusting, cleaning restrooms, break rooms and mopping. They use the most efficient route to complete their duties before moving to the next floor.
On their second pass their duties are vacuuming all traffic areas and spot vacuuming all other areas of carpet.
The floor is divided into 4 sections, 1, 2, 3, and 4. Every Friday the Cleaning worker will perform detail work or periodical cleaning tasks in that section and will continue to rotate the sections through the month until they are completed.
