Here's what our members are saying...

"We started an air duct cleaning company in 2003 after the economy started to slow we needed additional services to offer. A banker friend of mine suggested I look into the janitorial industry. I found the The Janitorial Store, and shortly thereafter was fortunate enough to meet Steve. And the rest is history. I consider Steve Hanson not only a business mentor but a great friend. 4 years later our janitorial division is nearly 10 times larger then our air duct cleaning division and still growing. Thanks so much to Steve and The Janitorial Store!"

"Steve - I just wanted to let you know that I got the 5 times a week account. Thanks so much for returning my call so quickly and being willing to offer advice, answer my questions and be a sounding board for strategy. You are a storehouse of information! I really appreciate your willingness to help. Thanks so much."

"There's something to say about having the ability to pick up the phone & contact the Janitorial Store with a problem, or simply to talk through a proposal that's on your desk. For the past 4+ years, I've happily paid my membership investment into TJS and have gotten an ROI that makes me want to ask Steve & Jean "WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING!?!?!" They have truly been a blessing to the growth of our company & have consistently shared their wealth of knowledge in a family-oriented style manner. I really dig that about them! I really do!! And I appreciate you guys simply being here. I've learned a lot! Blessings to your businesses."

Episode #25 -- What "One" Thing Can You Do To Kickstart Your Cleaning Business?

Video #25 - Video Transcription

Today I want to talk about kickstarting your cleaning business. You know a lot of us, "me included" sometimes get complacent as we move along in the day-to-day running of our business. But have you ever considered the impact you can make in your sales volume by adding just one more task to your daily or weekly or monthly to-do list?

Let me give you some examples:

Let's say you have a commercial cleaning business. What would happen if you made one extra sales call every day? That would mean you'd be making an additional 260 phone calls a year. How many more results could you expect by doing this? Would you be able to set up more potential client meetings?  How many of those meetings could you turn into sales? Let's say you have a residential cleaning business. What would happen if once a day you went to your "dead client files", or your "dead prospect files", and reconnected with one person a day?

Chances are, you have old clients that would love to have you back, or old prospects that forgot about you for a time but are now ready for your services. Don't be afraid to market to your "dead file".

Here's another idea on how to kickstart your cleaning business. Change up your schedule and start working a half-hour to one hour earlier. For many people, the early part of the day is their most productive time of day. What if you spent that hour working on projects you've continually put off because there's "just not enough time in the day"?

For you commercial cleaners, what if you spent that time trying to reach the decision-makers? Did you know that early in the morning is often the best time to reach the decision maker?

Here's a good one -- read one trade magazine every week. Do you ever get so many publications that you end up with a big stack of magazines that are waiting to be read? Make time for reading and staying on top of what's happening in the cleaning industry. You'll be amazed at what you'll learn, and you'll get great ideas on things that you should start doing in your business.

Here is something that I love doing in order to kickstart my business -- spend one hour a week or one day a month developing your skills. You need to invest time in your own self-development if you want your business to keep growing, and if you want to stay one step ahead of the competition.

This next idea is a tough one, and one I struggle with myself, but I do try my best to take at least one full day off a week from work. It's so easy to say, "I'm just going to do this one thing today", and before you know it, you've been working for 4 hours while your family is wondering when you'll be joining them! We all need time to re-charge if we want to stay positive and energetic for work. Taking time away is one of the best things you can do - even if it's just for a day.

And finally, kickstart your cleaning business by sending one thank you card a week. Do you ever thank people for meeting with you or thank your customers for doing business with you? Take some time to connect with your network by sending thank you cards, hand-written notes, or even a quick email. Letting them know you appreciate the time they spend with you or that you sincerely appreciate their business goes a long way in developing the relationship. And they'll be more likely to refer you to others when they have a relationship with you.
