VIDEO: Cleaning for Health vs. Cleaning for Appearance

This is a video discussion with Steve and Jean Hanson about the difference between Cleaning for Health and Cleaning for Appearance. There is a misconception that if it "looks clean" then it must be clean. But with growing concern over cleaning for health and the environment, cleaning business owners must learn the difference.

Here is a recap of the video:

Don't judge whether a site is clean or not based on a visual assessment only

Clean all of the touch points: door handles, elevator buttons, phones, copy machines, break room refrigerator, etc.

When creating specifications for a client, be sure to include specific examples of how you will disinfect the surfaces in their building.

To clean and disinfect restrooms, be sure to give the cleaners enough "dwell time" to do their work. Use microfiber cloths for cleaning. There are not any disinfectants that are approved as "green" by Green Seal, the EPA, or Ecologo, but you can find some of the safer neutral disinfectant products through a supplier such as Rochester Midland.

Just because a building smells good does not mean that it is clean. You may have to install some kind of aroma dispenser to appease the client who wants a "fresh" smell.
