VIDEO: Microfiber Floor Pads at BSCAI Convention 2008
This video was shot at the 2008 BSCAI Convention. I'm sure you've noticed that
microfibers are everywhere! And now they're making hard floor pads made from
microfibers. Although they might cost more than conventional floor pads, they
last up to 7 times longer so they're very economical. The vendor we talked to is from Americo
Video Recap:Microfiber is new to their line. There are two pad versions: 1. Single-sided with velco attachment for burnishers--electric, battery, or propane. These pads cause no microabrasion and no dust. They will also not leave burn marks or white marks from scarring the floor. 2. Two-sided pads for daily cleaning instead of the conventional red pads. These pads will hold up to seven times their weight in soil and water, yet will release the soil by hosing them off or washing them in a normal washing machine with water less than 120 degrees. Using the microfiber pads extends the life of the finish because they don't clean with abrasion. A good way to prove their effectiveness is to put a red pad on one side and a microfiber pad on the other of a machine and go down a soiled corridor. The burnishing pads work better on softer to medium finishes and not as well on harder surfaces. Microfiber pads cost 4-5 times as much money, but last at least 7 times as long. One contractor who cleans a 30,000 square foot Wal-Mart found that a red pad would last him two days, but a microfiber pad would last him two weeks. Red pads tend to compress and no longer get good contact with the floor. Sizes are comparable to the sizes used by standard machines. Natural stone floors can be polished with microfiber, but you cannot use them to repair stone surfaces. On hard surfaces you may give up a little gloss and there is a trade-off in cost, but you do eliminate the burn mark repairs caused by conventional burnishing.
