Cleaning Chemicals - Conditions That Affect Performance
Did you know that there are a number of conditions that can affect the performance of the cleaning chemicals you use?
Perhaps the most common factor that can affect cleaning chemical performance is the temperature of the water it's mixed with. For example, when cleaning a vinyl floor with a finish on it, use a neutral pH floor cleaner with cool water. Never use hot water for general cleaning or it can have an adverse affect on the floor finish.
Dwell time is another important factor that can affect cleaning chemical performance. Many cleaners recommend that you give the solution "dwell time" so it has a chance to work. Simply spraying and wiping may not provide enough time for the chemical to do its job. Keep in mind however, that you should not let the cleaning solution dry out on the surface.
Dilution ratio plays an important part in how effective a cleaning chemical performs. Using too much chemical can damage the surface you're cleaning, and not using enough chemical may not allow the chemical to clean properly. Follow the directions for mixing all chemicals, as the manufacturer may recommend different dilutions for different applications.
The procedures you use to clean also affects performance of cleaning chemicals. If you have employees and don't train them on the proper procedures, then they may not be using the chemical properly. Perhaps they should be using a brush or white pad to agitate the cleaner, but they're using a cotton cloth instead. They may not get the results you're looking for, and are likely using a lot of unnecessary energy.
If you want your cleaning chemicals to perform the way you expect, then follow the manufacturer's recommendations. This will not only keep you from having to work harder, but it will also ensure that the surfaces you're cleaning are protected.
